Other Ways To Give

There are many ways to support Catholic Charities in addition to a cash gift. Please call Michele Forte, Director of Development, at 415 972 1291 to discuss opportunities that best align with your philanthropic priorities.
Donate Stock
Making a gift of securities is both simple and tax-efficient. Gifts of appreciated stock may allow you to avoid a capital gains tax in addition to receiving a charitable income tax deduction for the fair market value of the stock.
Use the stock calculator to calculate the actual cost of your gift after-tax benefits.
To initiate a gift of stock, please follow the instructions on the Stock Transfer Form. Please fax a copy of the completed form to Catholic Charities Development Office when the transfer is made with your broker.

Matching Gifts
Many corporations match employee donations (or the tax-deductible component of your membership) to our organization. If you volunteer with us, your employer may also provide us with a grant as a way to recognize your ongoing support. Click here to check to see if your company offers these programs!
Make a Tribute Gift
Donating in honor of someone you love is a meaningful way to pay tribute to those who have made an impact in your life while making an impact in the lives of others. People often give tribute gifts to:
- Let a special person in your life know how much you care about them
- Celebrate the life of a departed loved one by continuing their legacy of giving
- Help make a difference in the lives of others
- Honor someone during a holiday, birthday, anniversary, or another special occasion.
There are two ways to make a tribute gift:
- Click here and be sure to complete the ‘Tribute’ portion of the donation form.
- Call 415 972 1276 to set up a gift using your credit card
Once you’ve completed your donation, an acknowledgment will be sent to the person you specify. Notifications do not include the gift amount.
Please note that if you are planning for memorial gifts to Catholic Charities in lieu of flowers, it is suggested that the obituary notice includes this phrase: “The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Catholic Charities. Please call 415 972 1276 or mail your contribution to Catholic Charities 1555 39th St., San Francisco, CA 94122. Please list the name of the deceased with your gift.”
Donate a Vehicle
To donate your car, truck, boat, RV, motorcycle, or trailer for the benefit of Catholic Charities, contact our vehicle donation partner, Auction City, to let them know you are interested in donating your vehicle to Catholic Charities. You may also call Auction City at 800.574.0888. Auction City will arrange to pick up your vehicle. You will receive a donation receipt from Auction City and a letter of acknowledgment from Catholic Charities for your tax purposes. The vehicle will be sold at auction, and Catholic Charities will receive the net proceeds of the sale, minus minor administrative costs.
Donate Through Your Parish
Each year, a second collection is taken during Mass at each parish in San Francisco, Marin and San Mateo counties to support Catholic Charities programs in those three counties. There are several ways to get involved with this second collection:
- Donate money to the second collection
- Participate as a speaker on that Sunday — we will provide you with a script to deliver our message to your parish.
- Donate now online
In-Kind Gifts
We do not typically accept donations of furniture or clothing, but we do occasionally make exceptions for special cases like family heirlooms or new items. To inquire if your items may be of use by a Catholic Charities client or program, please call 415 972 1276.
Unfortunately, we are unable to pick up items for donation but we are more than happy to work with you to schedule a drop-off.
Another way to give is through Community Thrift located at 623 Valencia Street in San Francisco. Community Thrift accepts gently-used, clean, sellable items 10:00 am – 5:00 pm daily. When you donate on-site, please designate Catholic Charities as a beneficiary of the proceeds of the sale of your donated items by giving them our Community Thrift Charity Code: 196. Community Thrift does not accept or sell any children’s items.
eScrip

Register your credit cards with eScrip and benefit Catholic Charities CYO Athletics when you shop with participating merchants. Follow the simple instructions to register your Safeway card, Macy’s card, debit card, and credit card. Enter the group name “CYO Athletics” to have your purchases benefit sports programs for kids in San Francisco and Marin Counties.
Combined Federal Campaign
If you are a federal government employee, you can give to Catholic Charities through the Combined Federal Campaign. Visit the Catholic Charities profile on the Charitable Choices website to make a donation.
Create a Facebook Fundraiser
You can create your own Facebook fundraiser for Catholic Charities at https://www.facebook.com/fund/CatholicCharitiesSF/. Many people like to create a fundraiser for their friends to donate to a charity on their birthday or in honor of a loved one. Donations to Catholic Charities, which is 501(c)(3) nonprofit, are typically tax-deductible. If you have questions about the deductibility of any donations, please reach out to a tax professional.
